9/12/2004, today woke up at 6am.. last night slept at 1sumthing.. had to do CIP(community project) today, a post project from my vietnam trip.. So the team meets at 8am, and only at 9sumthing 20people turn up.. many look dead, lack of sleep. So we went to this kindergarden, pretty isolated, near Bukit Timah hill there.. its on a hill too.. pretty big. So this lady split us into 3 teams, one clean the windows, two clean playgrounds, so i was in the playground group, downstairs.. tell more about the kindergarden, its divided, one for the Nun's dorm, a retreat for people and a kindergarden, pretty big.. So my frens and i, total 4 went to clean the playground..
there was one monkey bar, and its infested with mould and algae, pretty green;) the top bars were impossible to clean.. so my "good" frens leave the job for me. I jump and hang there and clean the bars.. its pretty fun though, but a good workout too.. after cleaning that, we were told to clean the basketball court.. Now then, let me explain the situation, a blank basketball court, hard concrete, and she expect us to scrub it clean.. sounds crazy? Ya it is.. so we started to clean it, scubbing and pouring water.. and after a while, many teammates started to complain and curse the lady who tell us to clean haha.. frankly it's pretty depressing, you scrub, and after a while it goes back black.. so, its like neverending.. luckily, its lunch time, so we ate.. we had noodles, which was too little for 20hungry ghosts.. after that.. we work for a hour more, and call it a day.. many of us cant take it anymore, especially the gals..
At around 1530, my brother's plane from Cambodia touch down in Singapore.. went to fetch him with my sister.. was faintin already haha, no food. luckily i was revived at the mac there.. haha, we took a cab back, and tonight gonna watch a movie.. zzz, kinda sleepy already ha.. catch 40winks first.:)

A chapter in my life open
4/12/04, my plane touch down on Singapore's ground at 3/12/04, 1330. that was a happy moment for my teammates and i, after staying in Vietnam for the past 18days, seeing Singapore, our homeland is a joyous thing;) Now i am back, thinking about the past 18days, these are the thoughts and a replay i would like to share...
the first day we all reach Da Nang, Vietnam, everyone was in a exhilariting mood, not knowing whats lie in front of us, the unknown seems tempting. We settle down in a house, used by 16 of us, and 10guys in another 2 bunks. I stay in the 2 bunks. We experience heavy downpour almost everyday, and fish and vege every dinner, (i never really enjoy strong seafood) hee, and it make me depress, luckily, we all got cans and more cans of meat, so after every dinner, if my frens and i feel hungry, we will open a can and enjoy the chicken or pork, Yummy;), that keep me alive though.. And everyday of the 18 day, we were split into 2 teams, 1 team went to site to work, and the other do washing of the house and market. This rountine ran on for 1 week and 5 days or more. The flood change everything...
the 12th day...we were all dining in a restaurent for our dinner, being a sunday, and its our free day. Just after dinner, our teamleader, Mr Ong, our lecturer, inform us that our site and home is flooded, and its grim. The team was thrown into shock for the first time.. We quickly take the bus back to salvage whatever we can and evacuate. On the way, there was flooding everywhere, and the water was rising.. When we reach the village, what awaits us was the cold and clammy water to our waist level. We got out, with a little shock and flu, and some cuts, that i have to put iodine on, but the whole team was alrite. We stayed in a hotel that night, it was pretty good, hot water, air con, tv and a very thick bed;), it was a blessing in disguise, but at the cost of the village and site. Our sch and site was totally in water, thus from the 12th day we cannot go back to work. and from this day onwards, we kept moving and moving...
We moved to a guest house the next day, and spent a night there. Our programme change to the orphanage, where we go there and played with them.No more sitework.. The next day we receive info that we are illegal to stay at the guest house, and had to move out. All the bags and stuffs were all thrown out, all mixed. I can say this was the breaking point for the team, homeless, stuffs all mixed up, hungry, depressed, cold, whats bad that some of us had no underwear to wear, which make us more frustrated...
Our programme went on, which the team find conforts in the children in the orphanage, and forgets about the hardship and stress that we are all facing.. Our teamleader and facilator talk to the police chief, and they allowed to let us stay in the Police Barracks, where they kept all the ak-47s and stuffs, haha, isnt that a great place? just rite with the police. We went to the orphanage for the last time, and there was much tears when we had to leave.. i feel sad too, really wish i can do more for the children.. Finally, the farewell party came, and the whole team dress up for Prom night;) (show you all the photos soon, i promise) we danced, drink, and party like no tmn, and it was time again to leave.. We flew to Ho Chih Minh City the next day, and when we arrive, everyone;s in a mood to shop and kill. So was i.
Its a very beautiful city, much like Singapore, but the traffic is madness. I can cross anyhow i like, bo juin hoa(means no one care);) the bikes are everywhere, with cars. We went shopping that day, the team went the Orchard road, while i went crazy and went to the Bim Tam market to open fire on the killing spree. haha, i went there and bargain all the way through, many a times i make the shopowners angry haha.. but some quite happy to have a challenge. Went to explore the city with my teacher that night, and the night view was magnificent. Watch HBO and CNN in hotel, the hotel was 4 stars, totally great;) oh yeah, we had dinner too, 30dish buffet..
tried all the exotic dishes, maggots, worms, Half life chick in egg, snails, pig's brain and tongue, everyone thinks i am crazy haha.. to try the egg, with the chick still in it. Am i mad? haha.. had a rest in hotel, and the next day we took the plane back to Singapore. Thus end the trip....
After 18days in a foreign country, learning the cultures and making winks at gals, haha.. i like Vietnam, for its rich history and their courage and patrorism for their country. Its their"never say die" atitude that captures me, the vigilance that they have. Also, the food, the people, the children in the orphanage... now i am back, i can say that i see Singapore diffently, like a observer, from a new perspective..
I now had a obsession, that is i wanna go backpacking next hols, with only a map and my trusty bag, i will go to foreign countries and back , to take pics and learn more about them. I will do that;).. Till then.
PS: i will get the photos up ASAP.. its pretty nice;)

SITUATION UNSTABLE, floods and unknown elements...
lets get this straight and easy to read. On the 25/11/2004, we experience floods, for the first time in our lives. The water was to our waist level, and chilly...
our program for that day was to visit the orphanage and spend time and have fun with them. it went pretty well, i have fun with the kids there, had to carry two or 3 of them with my bare arms, like doing 20 pullups in one go, also had to carry them and run, it was a pretty good experience talking and playing with the kids there. I give up my compass for the kids there too...
After leaving the orphanage for dinner, our bus got stuck in mud, the two front wheels couldnt moved. We finally got out after 1 hour by having a oil tanker dragging the bus out. Thus dinner came.
After dinner, the whole team receive word that our home are flooding, this got the whole team pretty worried and charged up.. along the way we saw floods coming on the roads.. but nothing prepares for the real thing..
We reached the village's entrance, what awaits us are dark water. The guys charged into the cold water, and to the main house. 10 of the guys, including me, went to the guys bunks to salavage the stuffs in our bunk. We manage to reach the bunk unscattered though the dirt road has already been covered with water to our waist. We just took whatever we could, and went back to the bus. Alan and i made the final journey back to the main house, by this time almost all the stuffs have been cleared.. we cleared up and left. The water was getting higher and colder, and we are getting more tensed. One girl, Nurul, keep screaming and crying over her stuffs, unnerving us... luckily, we got into the bus and left for a destination to stay for the night. I applied first aid to some onf our teammates wounds and cuts, but all was alright. We manage to stay in a hotel for the night.. it was heaven, aircon, hot water, tv.. hee, it was a blessing in disguise though.
Next day, we went to orphanage again, half of our bags were gone, still locked in the village. We manage to stay there, and by nite, we salavage all what we could by going to the village. the flood subside, but all over vietnam the floods are getting worst. 2 people have died from it.
Today, we are forced out of the guest house as we are not legal to stayed there, and again our stuffs are not all complete. The gals and some of the guys are upset by the sudden change, but i believe we have to stay strong for a few more days. Wed we will all pull thru, cause its the last day;) before we fly to siagon. Got to go.. time is running out, situation is pretty chaotic now.. will update soon if i have the chance again.

Woah.. feel like writing more;)
hmm.. sorry guys, pardon me if i am too draggy hee.. but just wanna talk on the day previous previous.. went to site and the building/structure's foundation was complete, just empty. So, our job was to fill it up with sand.. sounds easy? nah... we use spades and shovels to fill it up, took us 6 hours taking turns to throw the sand into the foundation. hahaha.. now i know burying someone is not easy too;) will publish the photos when i come back to singapore;) ohh.. forgetten, i demolish 1 of their just made column. I was going to take a pic when i just push a little tiny bit, the whole brick thing collapse in front of me. OOps.. hahaha.. the contractor wasnt very please, but i smile and pose for a photo anyway;) it was a pretty tiring day though, but a worth while.
More about yesterday, as part of my team didnt go to site, we went to the market in a small tiny van. Tell you, its damm impressive, on our way back, we got loads and loads of stuffs(for the village's children and orphanage), and we all thought its impossible to load it in, know what the driver say? No Problem;) OMG.. anyway, we load and it was raining heavily and Off we go.. i was at the driver's seat, and whats funny was that the passenger's seat has no window, so the rain keep splashing in on my face since i was squessing the seat with my lecturer like sardines in the front seat.ya.. after that we dress up like rockstars and Idols to meet the TP students but was disappointed.. haha..
well, i will stop here. laters people;)

Wed/11/2004
today started with a downpour, which lead to the stand down of our site operation. Our trip to site was cancelled. Which now is so pretty boring.. i am here in a internet cafe typing this thing out.. ahh, nevermind, lets talk about something more interesting..
last night we have a rendervous with the TP(Tamesek Poly) students in Da Nang city. we met for a dinner at a very "high class" restaurent. i "high class" cause the food and service is sucky.. there was little food and they keep giving us free drinks when we dont need. Oh.. i drank beer too hee;) Lets talk about the TP students, its like meeting Heaven and Hell, we are heaven, they are hell.. rowdy, punky, no rulzes type. They can go to clubbin whenever they like, eat sleep whatever they want, totally no discipline and rules. Piss me off. Oh.. and the guys are like babies, feel like giving them a punch. We all do the shit work, toil in the blasted sun, while these people just enjoy their time. Yeah, they did their work too, for the blind, they refurnish a building nicely for them.. blah blah.. no big deal. Even our lecturers disagree with what they do.They come in, smoke in front of us, out of 18 members of them, only 4 are non smokers, they others are puffing their lungs away. ha..
Next wed i heard we will be leaving this place.. feel kinda emotional.. after staying 9days here, you feel attached to the place, the lifestyle and people here. oh yeah.. the gals here hee..;) they always seems to capture my attention the most ha... TP gals cant hold a single candle to them simply;) Also, the village's kids... whenever i think of em, it kinda hit somewhere in my heart..
well, gonna have alot of people crying on next wed...

Ahh...
20/11/2004.. we just came back from the village, and today was man.. the best day yet. Rays of sunshine shone through the horizon when i see the clouds today.. totally no rain, only UV rays and more UV rays.. Thank God! Praise him, for the past 4 days, conditions have been critical and depressing.. the bunk where i have been staying is always damp and wet, i was totally K.O yesterday, feel like shitty shit, as i woke up yesterday to wet clothes dripping at the end of my sleeping area, i woke up having both feets and hands freezing like shit.. all is really shit. Thank God i got thru yesterday.. last nite we got a new hairdryer, thus we dry all our clothes 85%, or more.. god, its fast. ;) And my pal, alan and i move to the bed, no longer sleeping on the damp floor. lets talk about today then..;)
today wake up like a new man, after 4 days of shitty shit rain and cold, and fish and vege. went to do pullups and sit ups, feel much better indeed.;) haha, went to the village to play with the children there, man, all of 26 of us got a new kid, we have good fun there and play with many of them. Even two kids started to snatch my sunglasses from each other.. haha, the children range from 4 to 14, some are really cute, let me remember when i was young hee;) we played games with them, one funny part was that we all cheat to win with them!! the crew and i also made many balloons for them, man.. they were really impressed and happy with Singapore people now hee.. lecturer say we are doing goodwill for Singapore.. nah, i dont really care, what i care is that i do my job, make them happy, and give a lasting impression;)
oh btw, Singapore Poly got upgraded.. we are call (SPU), Singapore Poly Uni;) sounds cool?

The first few days in Vietnam
ahh.. this is the 3rd day in Vietnam, and i am using a comp in the internet cafe to send this home. Let me give you a short peek at the life here.. first day, we got onto the plane, and God, this was the first time i took a plane, weee.. its pretty fun and exciting, and its more exciting when we took the plane to Danang from Ho Chi Minh city, the plane was a small one, we got into a storm and experience turbelance, its was pretty scary? haha.. but we touch down in one piece. We got into our bunks and slept. End of day 1.
The second day? our first trip was to the market, the rain in Vietnam is crazy, it rained non stop from morning till nite. The journey was flooded, we had to cross many streams and rivers to get to the market, aside from it, the traffic was insane as the road was divided into 4 lanes, from different directions. We made to the market in one piece. After that, the site we went.. a boat ride we must take. Its cold, wet and scary for those who cant swim. Bascially the site was empty, and the pri sch needs alot of upgrading, trust me. After that, we went for a party;) its the first exchange we had with the Vietnam Duy Tan Uni students. oh man, i went crazy, i drank almost two big flowerpots of rice wine, and dance to the tune like a party animal with the gals there hee.. oh i didnt say, the gals are pretty pretty ha.. i am not horny;)
after dancing and madness, we went back to the bunk and rested. End of day 2
Day 3.. here i am . went to the market again to buy food and stuffs, there was no rain, which is perfect, i had live experience of a real market. worms, fresh fishs, vege, fruits, whatever you want, you get it. You can never see this in Singapore mind you, i had to get the market with team A as i am the first aider. Everywhere they go , i had to be there.
After coming back, we had full area cleaning of the house, damm.. its dont know how many years never clean liao.. we scrub, wash, scrub, wash, and curse ha.. the lunch cooked by the cooking time was splendid. 5 other members and i are in this internet cafe now.. looks pretty simple, and the keyboard had it keys switch over.. which make typing real "easy"..
got to go.. will update my blog in a couple of days again.. Till then mates;)

A day in my life
10/11/2004, its drawing closer to the Vietnam trip.. next tue at 1430 i will be boarding the plane en route to Da Nang and changing flight to Thuy Tu.. the village i will spend my next 18days with the other 27members. Everyone's feeling excited, and tensed up too. Plans and preparations are all taking place at one go.. 4th gear in. Luckily tmn is a hols, we have been planning and training all day long from mon to today now, 9am to 7pm.. These questions keep racing in my mind.. how will i react when the situation turn nasty there? will i panic or stay calm? the safety of my teammates rest on my shoulders.. i feel burdened by it. And, we receive a bad news today, that the contractor refuse to lay the foundation at there, thus it means we need to do it ourselves.. i dont think we have the skills and time for it.. i seriously think we need a miracle ;)
hmm Blogger created
well, find blogging is pretty fun and easy to use ba.. just paste here and there, and change stuffs.. haha, created in 1hour wor, my first blog. well, any comments just post it ya;)
